Biography for Master of Light website. Nov 2023.
Bruce Harley, born in 1949, Edinburgh, Scotland, where I currently live and enjoy my Retirement. My working life as a Programme Director was hectic and did not allow any free time to enjoy my Passion for Photography. However, when I retired in 2014 that all changed when I was able to completely immerse myself in my passion.
My Photographic Niche is creating Composites from the many libraries of photographs I have taken. I have also developed a style in Black and White photography that I am pursuing. To be creative in Photography you have to be able to photograph anything, so I would consider myself as a “Generalist” Photographer.
In 2016 I joined my local Camera Club, and that’s when my Photography grew arms and legs and took off! Being alongside other Photographers, taking part in Internal and External Competitions, etc, wetted my appetite for more. Today I am the External Competitions Secretary for this Camera Club and Curator for Club Exhibitions, I also take part in most UK National and International Photography Competitions.
Currently (late 2023) I have achieved, C***MoL, EFIAP/b, CPAGB, BPE4*, LRPS. Over 100 awards including several MoL, FIAP, and PSA Gold medals.
I am inspired in the way that Photography can provoke emotion, feeling, and action. As a person an image has always been more meaningful and powerful to me than words alone. In my images I try to capture the whole story, by careful use of composition, lighting, and my camera technique, and to convey the message through media exhibiting outstanding image quality.
Living in Scotland I am surrounded in outstanding natural beauty (and lots of Rain), so my other hobby is venturing up Mountains, Cycling, and conservation of the great Outdoors.
Bruce Harley C***MoL.
